Colorado – 2011

Heading north from New Mexico (mostly trying to escape the constant strong winds) I picked out a place to camp on my atlas just a tad west of Colorado Springs.  Once again luck was with me and South Meadow in the Pike National Forest turned out to be a great campground.  It doesn’t have a lot of amenities, only drinking water and pit toilets, but it was in a great location with gorgeous views.  Actually, pit toilets isn’t really a good description since they are new permanent facilities that are clean and well-kept without the smell usually associated with temporary facilities.

There is a great 15 mile paved bike trail just outside the campground and a lake with a nice picnic area just up the road.  I stayed about a week and then headed north into the Black Hills of South Dakota.
