Oklahoma – 2010

August 2010 – Chickasaw National Recreation Area

Along Travertine Creek

Near the town of Sulphur, Oklahoma and consisting of several campgrounds this was a gret place to stay with a lot of trails and other activities centered around the natural springs and creeks.  Only one of the campgrounds has  utility hook-ups and that is at Buckhorn, there are no showers and all of the campsites are first come first serve.

I stayed at the Cold Springs campground and had an enjoyable time.  It is close to town and yet out in the woods at the same time with great access to the springs and trails.  The sites have fire rings and picnic tables and are pretty well separated by trees.  Week ends are definitely crowded but during the week it is quiet with a lot of available camping.
